Having IBS With Constipation To Treat The Discomfort?

In treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) the place to start is finding ways to re-balance the food eaten and the foods you eat affect the digestive system.

Eating the right foods for IBS with constipation diet will help in preventing the major symptoms that are related to IBS.

Constipation is one of the major characteristics related to IBS. There are several reasons why constipation may be occurring, which is either part of the syndrome itself or can be due to a different problem. Knowing whether constipation is a result of IBS is important to determine immediately after the symptoms begin to occur. This will help you obtain the correct treatments to put your digestive tract back in place.

There are a number of foods that are used to help with IBS, constipation and give you normal digestion the majority of the time.

The major addition to add to your diet is fiber-rich food, which will help keeps constipation to a minimum.. Fruits and vegetables are great sources of fiber, as are foods with whole grains, all of which should be added, increased, to your diet.

Fruits like apples, peaches, and pineapples are good examples. Vegetables like broccoli and carrots are excellent as well. If you regularly eat wheat breads and pasta, try the whole-grain versions instead.

Another fiber option would be to begin taking a fiber supplement, especially if you are not the type who eats fruits and vegetables regularly.

Fiber works on both constipation and diarrhea. If your stool is dry and hard, fiber makes it easier to pass; if you have diarrhea it gives the stool more consistency. Start by taking a small amount then gradually increase the amounts. This will give your body time to adjust to the supplement, and therefore avoid any unpleasant side effects. Remember to drink plenty of water whenever you take fiber supplements.

Other supplements you might look into are calcium supplements and magnesium supplements. Calcium is a mineral supplement which can naturally slow down the bowels. It is ideal for those who suffer from diarrhea. Magnesium, on the other hand, helps people suffering from constipation.

The addition of fiber to your diet has been proven to help the muscles that are around the intestinal area, allowing the digestive system to function better.

If you are having difficulties with the increase in fiber, you should try putting fiber into your diet at a slower pace. Allowing time for your body to adjust, your body will get there in the end.

Also make sure that you avoid fatty foods and oils, dairy products like milk, ice cream, and butter, as much as possible as they may exacerbate the problems and they are not foods that flow easily though your digestive tract.

Make sure that you are drinking more water. Most doctors and nutritionists recommend that you drink between six and eight glasses of water each day, depending on your size and how much food you are eating. This will often allow the digestive tract to move at an easier pace with the extra fluids and help your problems with constipation.

Another possible reason for the constipation and IBS is related to the amount of food that you are eating. Your intestinal problems may be a result of there being too much food intake at once.

Think about eating smaller meals four, five or even six times each day. The smaller meals will allow your metabolism to keep an even pace and will also keep the muscles relaxed in your digestive tract and the unpleasant effects of IBS and constipation.
